{"id":9037,"date":"2025-08-03T06:32:22","date_gmt":"2025-08-03T06:32:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/placedesnations.org\/index.php\/2025\/08\/03\/artists-help-pupils-and-centre-users-create-murals\/"},"modified":"2025-08-03T06:32:22","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T06:32:22","slug":"artists-help-pupils-and-centre-users-create-murals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/placedesnations.org\/index.php\/2025\/08\/03\/artists-help-pupils-and-centre-users-create-murals\/","title":{"rendered":"Artists help pupils and centre users create murals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two artists have worked with children and users of a wellbeing and cancer support centre to create new murals in a Staffordshire town.<\/p>\n<p>Local artists Kate O and Wingy worked with pupils from Two Rivers School, which provides special education, and Tamworth Wellbeing and Cancer Support Centre.<\/p>\n<p>New Urban Era (Nue), which organised the projects as part of its outreach programme, said the initiatives had fostered \u00ab\u00a0creativity, connection, and a sense of accomplishment among participants\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>The murals were painted on walls at the two sites where they are now being displayed.<\/p>\n<p>Art group Nue said it consulted with Two Rivers School&rsquo;s deputy head, as well as the manager of the cancer support centre, at the start of the projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0These crucial discussions ensured that the projects were tailored to the unique needs and abilities of the users, artists and locations, maximizing their impact,\u00a0\u00bb Nue said.<\/p>\n<p>The artists guided participants through the mural creation process, which began with \u00ab\u00a0get to know you sessions\u00a0\u00bb exploring individual abilities and the principles of mural work.<\/p>\n<p>Two Rivers School saw a core group of 12 pupils complete the project, \u00ab\u00a0resulting in several inspiring murals now adorning their space\u00a0\u00bb, Nue said.<\/p>\n<p>And a group of 15 users who attend the wellbeing centre off Crowden Road made a a \u00ab\u00a0beautiful and meaningful\u00a0\u00bb final mural, it added.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0We are incredibly proud of the profound impact this programme has had on the participants and the communities of Tamworth,\u00a0\u00bb said Nue founder Vic Brown.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0By bringing art and collaboration directly to these vital venues, we&rsquo;ve not only created stunning visual pieces but also fostered an environment of healing, self-expression and connection.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0The dedication of the artists and the enthusiastic participation of the users have made this initiative a truly remarkable success.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Both artists, Kate O and Wingy, successfully completed an NVQ Level 2 counselling course as part of the programme, to support their professional development in working within the health sector.<\/p>\n<p>Follow BBC Stoke &amp; Staffordshire on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X and Instagram.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two artists have worked with children and users of a wellbeing and cancer support centre to create new murals in a Staffordshire town.
