{"id":9093,"date":"2025-08-18T17:34:42","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T17:34:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/placedesnations.org\/index.php\/2025\/08\/18\/art-charity-buzzing-to-move-into-new-75m-campus\/"},"modified":"2025-08-18T17:34:42","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T17:34:42","slug":"art-charity-buzzing-to-move-into-new-75m-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/placedesnations.org\/index.php\/2025\/08\/18\/art-charity-buzzing-to-move-into-new-75m-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"Art charity &lsquo;buzzing&rsquo; to move into new \u00a375m campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An art charity has said it is \u00ab\u00a0absolutely buzzing\u00a0\u00bb to be part of a \u00a375m city centre university campus that officially opened its doors on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Art Shape, which works with the NHS to deliver all kinds of art as prescriptions, has a new home in the University of Gloucestershire&rsquo;s City Campus.<\/p>\n<p>The building, which will be a hub for 1,200 students and staff, was transformed from the old Debenhams in Gloucester&rsquo;s King&rsquo;s Square.<\/p>\n<p>Kate Cox, from Art Shape, said the charity would now be able to expand its work linking creativity with wellbeing. \u00ab\u00a0It&rsquo;s been amazing&#8230; to meet so many new partners and different organisations that we&rsquo;re going to be working alongside,\u00a0\u00bb she said.<\/p>\n<p>The charity has been running in Gloucestershire since 1993.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Cox said: \u00ab\u00a0We take an integrated approach to wellbeing, where your medical and clinical health can be really well supported by having creative and expressive practice alongside that. And there&rsquo;s a lot of evidence and research to support that thinking.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>The new campus will host education, psychology and social work students.<\/p>\n<p>Art Space has moved into its Arts, Health and Wellbeing Centre, on the first floor, next to teaching rooms.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Cox said: \u00ab\u00a0People can experience first-hand the benefits of creative health practices, but also learn how to apply these things within their education and medical training.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0I&rsquo;m absolutely buzzing,\u00a0\u00bb she added. \u00ab\u00a0It&rsquo;s such a gorgeous building.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Alex Cottrell, head of external relationships at the University of Gloucestershire, said City Campus had been designed as a \u00ab\u00a0community campus\u00a0\u00bb rather than a space only for students.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0All of our campuses are open, but this one in particular has been designed to integrate the local community, our students, local experts and other stakeholders,\u00a0\u00bb she said.<\/p>\n<p>With the county public library due to move in later this year, the university says the building will become a hub not just for students, but also for local charities, businesses and the wider community.<\/p>\n<p>Follow BBC Gloucestershire on Facebook, X and Instagram.
