{"id":9302,"date":"2025-10-17T10:21:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T10:21:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/placedesnations.org\/index.php\/2025\/10\/17\/student-paramedic-helps-deliver-lecturers-baby\/"},"modified":"2025-10-17T10:21:15","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T10:21:15","slug":"student-paramedic-helps-deliver-lecturers-baby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/placedesnations.org\/index.php\/2025\/10\/17\/student-paramedic-helps-deliver-lecturers-baby\/","title":{"rendered":"Student paramedic helps deliver lecturer&rsquo;s baby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Paramedic services student Elise Faragher had no idea her routine hospital placement would see her helping to deliver the baby of someone very familiar.<\/p>\n<p>The third-year student was at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital when her lecturer, Aaron Collins, and his wife Lexy, came in to have an elective C-section.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Collins had taught Elise anatomy, physiology, and all about what happens during childbirth.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0I was confused and shocked when I first saw Aaron on the day,\u00a0\u00bb Ms Faragher said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0I thought he might have come to visit me on placement, but I quickly realised that wasn&rsquo;t what he was there for.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Once baby Luca had been checked, I tapped Aaron on the shoulder and asked if he&rsquo;d like to cut the cord &#8211; a student doesn&rsquo;t get to ask their lecturer that question very often.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Mr Collins, who has taught Ms Faragher since her first year, and she said they get on really well.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0We have a lot of fun and jokes,\u00a0\u00bb she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Aaron is very caring and supportive, and he has been there to help me gain confidence throughout the last few years.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Since assisting with the birth, she has gone on to help deliver her first baby while on placement with the ambulance service.<\/p>\n<p>It was a \u00ab\u00a0surreal moment\u00a0\u00bb seeing her at the hospital, Mr Collins said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0She was very professional and checked with us both that we were happy for her to stay, which we were,\u00a0\u00bb he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0She did incredibly well assisting in a birth with her lecturer present&#8230;. it&rsquo;s a situation that could have felt daunting, but she did everything she should have done.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>He added that Luca was doing really well.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0He&rsquo;s hitting his milestones just as he should be, and he&rsquo;s putting on weight nicely while giving us lots of laughs and babbles; everything a baby should be doing,\u00a0\u00bb he added.<\/p>\n<p>Follow BBC Hereford &amp; Worcester on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X and Instagram.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paramedic services student Elise Faragher had no idea her routine hospital placement would see her helping to deliver the baby of someone very familiar.
