{"id":9432,"date":"2025-11-14T12:34:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T12:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/placedesnations.org\/index.php\/2025\/11\/14\/wellbeing-support-for-terminally-ill-islanders\/"},"modified":"2025-11-14T12:34:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T12:34:09","slug":"wellbeing-support-for-terminally-ill-islanders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/placedesnations.org\/index.php\/2025\/11\/14\/wellbeing-support-for-terminally-ill-islanders\/","title":{"rendered":"Wellbeing support for terminally-ill islanders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A hospice has offered wellbeing support to islanders living with terminal illnesses.<\/p>\n<p>Les Bourgs Hospice in Guernsey has started a free 12-week rolling programme open to anyone aged 18 or over who has a life-limiting or serious progressive illness.<\/p>\n<p>Eloise Tangey, service lead, said: \u00ab\u00a0There was a recognised need for a sort of support service for people who have a life-limiting or long-term illness to give them support&#8230; advice and really create a safe environment for them to be involved in.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>The wellbeing sessions are being held on Thursdays at the Wellbeing Centre at Andrew Mitchell House.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Tangey said the scheme allowed people to \u00ab\u00a0have that space and they can connect and unload\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u00ab\u00a0It also gives caregivers and family members a break, they don&rsquo;t have to worry that they are being taken care of.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0We&rsquo;re seeing the impact on the people we&rsquo;re having, but we would just love to get more people in because we know how much of a positive impact it can have on people.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Service user Len Lawson-Domaille, who has been attending the sessions for about four weeks, said the nurses at the hospice were \u00ab\u00a0absolutely wonderful people\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0I enjoy the mixing with people, we&rsquo;re all the same, we&rsquo;ve all got problems and we love to talk to each other and we like to talk with the nurses.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Follow BBC Guernsey on X and Facebook and Instagram.
