{"id":9455,"date":"2025-10-02T05:05:22","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T05:05:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/placedesnations.org\/index.php\/2025\/10\/02\/since-having-covid-my-life-has-completely-changed\/"},"modified":"2025-10-02T05:05:22","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T05:05:22","slug":"since-having-covid-my-life-has-completely-changed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/placedesnations.org\/index.php\/2025\/10\/02\/since-having-covid-my-life-has-completely-changed\/","title":{"rendered":"&lsquo;Since having Covid my life has completely changed&rsquo;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A teenager from Dorset has told the Covid-19 inquiry her ongoing symptoms often leave her feeling \u00ab\u00a0left out\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>The inquiry hopes to understand the ongoing impact of the pandemic and is expected to last four weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Some witnesses described having to stay at home and miss school because of living with vulnerable family members<\/p>\n<p>Others, like 16-year-old Molly from Weymouth, said they were still experiencing symptoms of Long Covid, where the infection&rsquo;s symptoms continue for more than 12 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Before being diagnosed, Molly said she used to be \u00ab\u00a0really active and sporty\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Now I live with on-going symptoms that stop me from doing the things that most teenagers can,\u00a0\u00bb she said.<\/p>\n<p>Molly spent long periods in hospital and said she was forced to miss out on most of her secondary education.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0I often feel left out because my friends have moved on and I can&rsquo;t keep up.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Molly said she thought it was \u00ab\u00a0very important\u00a0\u00bb that children and young people gave  evidence to the inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Too often children like me have felt abandoned and failed, our struggles minimised and ignored,\u00a0\u00bb she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0I want people to understand how much this has affected young people too&#8230; and children like me won&rsquo;t be overlooked in the future.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Sammie McFarland, from Weymouth, is the CEO and co-founder of Long Covid Kids, which represents more than 11,000 families in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>She said she hoped to see \u00ab\u00a0rock-solid action\u00a0\u00bb from the government, as well as \u00ab\u00a0a formal apology to children and young people who have been completely and utterly overlooked\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>The government has said it is committed to learning lessons from the inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>Lana was 14 when the pandemic hit and had to shield for two years because her mother was, and still is, high-risk.<\/p>\n<p>She gave her account of missing out on learning and education, as well as spending time with friends, to the inquiry in London this week.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Steven, who is a member of the Clinically Vulnerable Families, shared Lana&rsquo;s account on BBC Radio Solent.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u00ab\u00a0The impacts on these kids and these families is still ongoing to this day and at the moment there doesn&rsquo;t seem to be any end in sight.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0We really need the inquiry to pick apart these issue for us.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>The session looking into the impact on children and young people is expected to last four weeks.<\/p>\n<p>You can follow BBC Dorset on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A teenager from Dorset has told the Covid-19 inquiry her ongoing symptoms often leave her feeling \u00ab\u00a0left out\u00a0\u00bb.
