{"id":9917,"date":"2026-03-20T06:14:01","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T06:14:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/placedesnations.org\/index.php\/2026\/03\/20\/woman-with-agonising-condition-to-give-back\/"},"modified":"2026-03-20T06:14:01","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T06:14:01","slug":"woman-with-agonising-condition-to-give-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/placedesnations.org\/index.php\/2026\/03\/20\/woman-with-agonising-condition-to-give-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman with &lsquo;agonising&rsquo; condition to &lsquo;give back&rsquo;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A woman from Worcestershire who has lived with a \u00ab\u00a0debilitating\u00a0\u00bb and \u00ab\u00a0agonising\u00a0\u00bb condition for 23 years has set herself the challenge of raising money for the team that helped diagnose her.<\/p>\n<p>Harriet Amos, a musician and teacher from Worcester, was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2016 and has since undergone five operations, including the removal of one of her ovaries.<\/p>\n<p>She was supported through her diagnosis and treatment at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust by consultant gynaecologist Angus Thomson, and the trust&rsquo;s Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain team.<\/p>\n<p>To mark Endometriosis Action Month, Amos said she wanted to host a concert in aid of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity.<\/p>\n<p>Endometriosis is a condition where tissue normally found in the lining of the womb grows outside the uterus, most commonly in the pelvis.<\/p>\n<p>It affects one in 10 women and is the second most common gynaecological condition in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Discussing her experience, Amos said: \u00ab\u00a0I have been so well looked after that I wanted to find some way to not only give something back, but also to raise the profile of this awful condition.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0My decision to donate here was because those patients presenting to emergency care with agonising pelvic pain will be directed here.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0If they can be met with a little extra comfort as a result of additional funds raised, that for me would mean so much, as I myself have been in that situation many times.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Joanna Street, lead endometriosis and pelvic pain specialist nurse at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals, said the team were grateful for Amos&rsquo;s fundraising efforts, with money previously raised used to buy reclining chairs \u00ab\u00a0so that patients who are in pain can sit more comfortably\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Laura Gregory, community and events fundraising officer for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, added: \u00ab\u00a0Harriet&rsquo;s fundraising has made such a difference already for patients&rsquo; experience of care and her continued support will have a real impact for her local community.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>The concert will take place at St Stephen&rsquo;s Church Barbourne, Worcester, on 28 March at 19:30 GMT.<\/p>\n<p>Follow BBC Hereford &amp; Worcester on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X and Instagram.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A woman from Worcestershire who has lived with a \u00ab\u00a0debilitating\u00a0\u00bb and \u00ab\u00a0agonising\u00a0\u00bb condition for 23 years has set herself the challenge of raising money for the team that helped diagnose her.
